
Trade data for the Turkish woodworking machinery industry for 2024 was announced. The sector followed a more cautious course in exports, production and domestic sales compared to the previous year due to the fluctuations in global markets. In the sector, which closed 2024 with 150 million dollars of exports, the ratio of exports to imports was 148 percent.
According to the Woodworking Machinery Sector Report prepared by AIMSAD based on the foreign trade data published by TUIK; sector exports were recorded as 150 million dollars in 2024. At the end of 2024, when imports amounted to 101 million dollars, production to 370 million dollars and domestic sales to 322 million dollars, the foreign trade balance was recorded as 48 million dollars. In addition, the ratio of exports to imports at the end of the year was 148 percent.
Russia remains on top in exports, followed by the US and Kosovo
The Turkish woodworking machinery sector continued its efforts throughout the year in line with its goal of diversifying its export markets despite a series of economic negativities in both domestic and global markets. At the end of 2024, the most important export market of the sector was the Russian Federation with 13.4 million dollars. The USA, which emerges as the world's most important market in many sectors, was the second country to which the Turkish woodworking machinery sector exported the most in 2024. Machinery exports to the USA during the year amounted to 7 million dollars. Kosovo followed the USA with 6 million dollars. The other countries to which Türkiye exported woodworking machinery throughout the year were as follows; Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Poland.
87 percent of imports from China, Italy and Germany
At the end of 2024, the countries that Türkiye imported the most woodworking machinery from were China, Italy and Germany, respectively. According to the data in the report, Türkiye imported 33.5 million dollars’ worth of machinery from China, which is called the factory of the world, 33 million dollars from Italy and 19.3 million dollars from Germany. A very serious 87 percent of the imports made in the whole year were realized from these 3 countries. Türkiye also imported machinery from Austria, Taiwan, Finland, Brazil, Brazil, Poland, Spain and the USA.
Exported machine groups
At the end of 2024, when the most exported machinery groups were analyzed, it was seen that the machines in the “Others” group was at the top with 42 million dollars. This was followed by sawing machines with 37 million dollars and planing, milling or molding (by cutting) machines with 22.7 million dollars, and machines capable of performing different machine operations without tool changes between operations with 15 million dollars.
Sawing machines ranked first in imports
In the period subject to the report, Türkiye imported sawing machines the most, with a worth of 22.6 million dollars. Machines capable of performing different machine operations without tool changes between operations ranked second with 22.4 million dollars, while machines in the “Others” group ranked third with 15.2 million dollars.
