In Alternative Market, the new content of AIMSAD Magazine, we will cover the total foreign trade volume of a different country, foreign trade of Woodworking Machinery and the furniture industry in each issue. In our first issue, we examined Germany, which ranked third in furniture production in the world, fourth in exports and second in imports in 2021. The content we compiled from the data of the CSIL Furniture Sector Report prepared by the Center for Industrial Studies (CSIL) company contains very critical information about Germany.

Germany is one of the leading countries that shape the world economy. Germany, which is both a big producer and a big importer in many fields, is one of the biggest players in the woodworking machinery (Woodworking Machinary) sector and the furniture sector. In particular, detailed studies should be carried out in Germany, which is a very large market for the Woodworking Machinary sector, and Turkey should increase its share in the cake.

The data shared within the scope of the CSIL Furniture Industry Report, which is published annually by CSIL (Centre for Industrial Studies) and includes the furniture sector data of 100 different countries, contains guiding information for companies operating in the woodworking machinery sector. In the report, in which the furniture production, export and import data of the countries are shared, the distribution of the trade data of the countries with each other by years is also included.

A TOTAL OF 506 BILLION DOLLARS OF FURNITURE PRODUCTION WORLDWIDE

In this issue, we will examine Germany, one of the strongest players in the furniture industry. However, before examining a country specifically, it is necessary to take a look at the general situation in the world. According to the preliminary data of the CSIL Furniture Industry Report for 2021; Last year, a total of 506 billion dollars of furniture was produced worldwide. In 2021, China became the world’s main furniture producer. 39 percent of the total furniture production was met by China. Again, according to estimated data; America with 12 percent, Germany and Italy with 4 percent, Vietnam, India and Poland with 3 percent.

ATTENTION TO ASIAN AND PACIFIC REGION

The most striking of the information given in the report was the furniture production data, which has increased over the years. According to this; In the period from 2012 to 2021, there was an increase of 84 billion dollars in furniture production in the Asia and Pacific Region. In addition, it is estimated that more than half of the world furniture production in 2021 is realized by the countries located in the Asia and Pacific Regions.

AMERICA IS THE MAIN PLAYER OF FURNITURE IMPORT

When we look at the main furniture importers in the world, it is seen that America is in the first place. After America comes Germany. Germany is followed by France, England and the Netherlands, respectively. The increase in furniture imports from the USA until 2018 played a very important role in the growth of international furniture trade. However, in 2019, the furniture imports of the USA started to decrease due to trade restrictions. In 2020, imports came to a standstill due to the pandemic. In 2020, 76 percent of America’s imports came from Asia. However, due to the tensions between China and America, it was noted that China’s share decreased.

INCREASED IN FURNITURE EXPORTS IN 2021

Looking at the preliminary data for 2021 in the CSIL Furniture Industry Report, it is seen that the main furniture exporting country is China. China is followed by Vietnam, Poland, Germany and Italy, respectively. When the graphics in the report are examined, it is seen that there is an increase in furniture exports in 2021 in all of these countries that shape the world furniture exports. Especially when compared to 2020. It turns out that in 2021, China’s furniture exports increased by 30 percent. The numerical value of this percentage increase reaches 77 billion dollars.

IN THE TOP FIVE IN WORLD FURNITURE PRODUCTION, IMPORT AND EXPORT

When the estimated trade data for Germany in the CSIL Report are analyzed, it is seen that the country ranks third in world furniture production, fourth in exports and second in imports as of the end of 2021. These data show us that Germany is a very critical country that directs the world furniture trade. When the production, export and import data for the period from 2012 to 2021 are analyzed, it is seen that there was a general decline in Germany in 2015. In the said period, production decreased from 22 billion dollars to 20 billion dollars, exports from 11 billion dollars to 10 billion dollars, and imports from 14 billion dollars to 12 billion dollars.

TRADE VOLUME WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASING IN THE COMING YEARS

In the country, where an increase trend was observed in general from 2015 to 2018, there was a decrease again in 2019 and 2020. However, as the impact of the pandemic on trade diminished, the numbers started to rise again in 2021. According to the estimated data in the report; Germany produced $22 billion in furniture in 2021. The country, which exports approximately 13 billion dollars of furniture, also imported close to 16 billion dollars. Thus, according to the estimated data; in 2021, Germany made a total of over $25 billion in furniture trade. In addition, it is predicted that Germany’s furniture trade will grow by four percent in 2022 and by two percent in 2023.

POLAND MEETS 26.3 PERCENT OF GERMANY’S TOTAL FURNITURE IMPORTS
